Where each child shines

Buttercup Class and Lily Class

On behalf of the team, we welcome your child into their first year of full time education and assure you that we will do our best to give them an enjoyable and successful year. We are sure that we will have your full support in ensuring your child reaches their full potential.

Curriculum News

In Reception we follow the guidance within Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and we use a question base topic approach each half term. Please refer to our curriculum newsletter and the weekly overview (on the door at the entrance) for current information. Please note that our planning is flexible as we take the children’s interests and needs into account; we regularly pre-assess topics to find out what they already know, so that we have a firm starting point for planning.

We are a Read, Write Inc. school and phonics is taught daily. A daily focus sheet will be sent home daily to support learning the focus sound for the day.

Homework and Reading Books

Your child will be given a reading book to share with you at home. A book bag can be purchased from the school office, as it is important that they have somewhere to store their homework book and letters home. Reading books will be changed once a week and we ask that you try to read with your child every evening; this does have an immense impact on their progress.

Home work books are sent home every Friday and then collected in the following Wednesday. The activities set each week are linked to our weekly focus and it is hoped that you will take the time to support your child with the task.

PE Kits

PE is taught on a Tuesday for Buttercup Class and Thursday for Lily Class. PE bags will be kept in class and can be taken home for washing at the end of the half term. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with you child’s name; check after washing as they can fade!

Kits can be purchased from the school office.

Snack Time

We often share a snack at the end of the day and for this we ask for a voluntary contribution of 50p each week. The children will have milk and fruit available to them in the morning during their Reception year.

We do have access to a water fountain but child may bring in a bottle of plain water as long as it is clearly labelled. NO JUICE PLEASE.

Lunch Time

Your child is eligible for a free school meal but if you require them to have a packed lunch, please ensure it is in a named lunch box. It should contain a balanced lunch with a carton of pure juice or water. NO SUGARY OR FIZZY DRINKS PLEASE.

Thank you for your support with this and should you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s education, please feel free to contact us.
